Chepstow Banking Hub

What are Banking Hubs?

  • They are shared banking spaces with a counter service on the High Street.
  • They are run by a company called Cash Access UK, a not for profit company funded by the banks.
  • Individual Hubs are run by the Post Office but they are not a Post Office.
  • They are open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm

The Chepstow Banking Hub

  • Will be at 3, Conrad House, the former Henry’s Bar. This is the building behind Coffee#1 going (the wrong way) down the one way street towards the A48.
  • Work has already started on its conversion but an opening date has not yet been confirmed. However, Lloyds Bank will not close until the Hub is ready to open.
  • It will be run by the Chepstow Post Office manager who will run both the Hub and the Town Post Office.

A Banking Hub representative gave presentations at Lloyds Bank on 21st July and at the Palmer Centre the following day. Committee members went to both presentations.

What We Know So Far

  • You will be able to
    • Withdraw cash
    • Deposit cash and cheques
    • Make balance enquiries
    • Pay utility bills
  • It will be available for personal and business customers
    • But check with your bank to see which business services will be available.
  • Chepstow u3a can make deposits on any day - our Groups should be able to continue to use the paying in slips as they do at the moment. However, the representative at the Palmer Centre was a bit uncertain about this so it needs to be confirmed.
  • You can talk to a community banker from your own bank on the day allocated to your bank. Private space will be available.
    • Lloyds is Monday. Other banks will be available on other days: which banks and which days to be confirmed.
  • Free WiFi may be available
  • There will be an ATM - hopefully outside but to be confirmed.
  • It will be fully accessible if possible
  • Although it will be run by the Post Office it is not a Post Office so you will not be able to send parcels and buy stamps.
  • There will be a big opening day, advertised locally, with local councillors and charities invited.

There are still questions to be answered and some of the above details may be clarified in the coming weeks.
