Venue: Chepstow Leisure Centre

We set off to find and identify some of the many species of birds to be found within reach of Chepstow. We are not experts but with several pairs of eyes and guide books to hand it is encouraging how many different species we do see. We are very lucky to have such a variety of habitats to choose from.

We regularly visit Slimbridge where Bewick’s swans and various geese arrive to spend the winter, Ham Wall on the Somerset levels where egrets, bitterns, common cranes and marsh harriers can be seen as well as the famous starling murmuration at dusk in the winter. Nearer home, the Goldcliff Lagoons contain a variety of waders and ducks in spring and autumn, while the Forest of Dean has a wide range of woodland birds.

Our group is a friendly group of bird watchers and also people interested in our natural world. We welcome any member, and will try and accommodate your interest. If you have a particular expertise, you would be most welcome. It is our aim to learn more about the countryside in which we live.

Our monthly visits can be either a half or full day. The programme is the outcome of members’ discussions. Occasionally there may be other trips of interest to suit the particular aim of the visit.

We meet for a 9:30am departure from the Chepstow Leisure Centre car park and car share. Prior to all visits members will be sent an email detailing the length of the visit, facilities available and whether to bring food and hot drinks.
