Tea Duty Guidance

Please arrive by 1:30 pm.

Everything you need will be there. and someone will be available to assist you and answer any questions

BUT PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE YOU COME.

When you arrive:

  • Check the WATER BOILER has been switched on.
    • There are three settings on the boiler and these control the amount of water that is automatically put into the boiler.  Set this to High.
  • Check the DISWASHER has been switched on.
  • The Dishwasher instructions are on the wall above the machine
    • For very large numbers of people (eg. Christmas Party), an URN will also be provided. This should be filled and switched on.
  • Set out the mugs first and then as many cups and saucers as there is space for (more will be needed).
  • Make up the big flask with coffee. It needs 8 tablespoons of coffee and fill with boiling water.  (Appox3 kettles). Warm the flask first.
  • Leave members to add their own milk from the adjacent serving tables.
  • METAL TEAPOTS: both teapots take 6 tea bags. There are smaller China pots if needed.
  • SERVING TABLES: set up two tables, one on on either side of the hatch but well away from it. Each table should have 2 jugs of milk, 2 sugar bowls, some teaspoons and several platefuls of biscuits.

Refreshments are usually served around 3 pm but this varies depending on the length of the talk and the number of questions. Five minutes is needed to brew the tea and check the supply of hot water.

At this stage you could do a rough count of the numbers in the Hall so you will know how many to expect to cater for. Not everyone stays after the talk.

Have a rest and enjoy the talk.

With Five Minutes To Go

  • Brew the tea
  • Tea towels are in one of the drawers

At the End

  • Collect the used cups and saucers, wash in the Dishwasher and put away in the cupboards.

A copy of these Guidelines will be available at the Drill Hall when you arrive.

Thank you very much for serving grateful members with refreshments.

Your Group’s turn to do Tea Duty will not come round again for another five years or so!
