Tai Chi Chuan, or simply Tai Chi, is sometimes described as meditation through movement. In our ten week beginners course we aim to cover the first seventeen moves of the set of one hundred and eight, developed by Moy Lin-Shin in Canada in the 1970’s.

We also include some Qi Gong exercises closely associated with the moves. Moy style Tai Chi was developed with an emphasis on health and well-being. Slow movements of the body are designed to develop flexibility, coordination and balance, at the same time helping relaxation and reducing stress. By the end of the course, participants should be able to practise this first sequence of moves with some confidence. As the teaching of the course is sequential, to gain the full benefit, it is important to attend all lessons.

Following on from the beginners course we offer continuing lessons. Initially much of our teaching centres around copying the moves, but in the continuing course, as well as teaching the complete set of moves, we look to make small adjustments as we develop our practice and increase the health benefits.

There will be no further beginners classes for the foreseeable future.

However, if you have done Taoist tai chi before, please contact the group leader for a discussion.
