About AwayDays Visits
Why do AwayDays give you lanyards?
- We use them to ‘tick’ people off as they arrive in the car park so we can check that everyone has arrived for the trip.
- It helps to break the ice if you can put a name to a face and helps new members make friends. If people see someone on their own with our lanyard it encourages them to include that person in their group
- It can facilitate entry into venues or a booked tour when everyone is wearing the lanyard.
- It displays the AwayDays phone number – see below.
- It advertises the u3a movement
Please wear the lanyard during the visit but return it to us at at the end of the day.
AwayDays Phone 07514 287 389
On the day of the visit the Group Leader can be contacted on this number in an emergency. For instance, if you are unable to get to the coach in the morning or at the end of the visit, or if you need to contact the Group Leader for any reason during the day. We suggest that you add this phone number to the Contacts list on your phone.
Please read the Chepstow u3a Refunds Policy when booking AwayDays visits.
Prices are kept as low as possible and include coach travel, entry, where appropriate, to the museum, house, garden, attraction etc., any organised tours and all gratuities.
Full payment is required at the time of booking.
Payment by bank transfer is preferred but you can also pay by credit card or cheque at our monthly Coffee Mornings and Tuesday Live. When your place on the trip is confirmed you will be sent details of how to pay with a reference for those paying by bank transfer
All trips are advertised on our web page which indicates when you can book in for the trip - usually the 1st of the month preceding the trip. We do not take advance bookings, reservations or payments.
When trips are open for booking
- You can book in via the website.
- They are advertised in the u3a Magazine which is published on the 1st of every month.
- They are advertised at subsequent Tuesday Live and Coffee Mornings.
- If there are places remaining an email will be sent to members of the AwayDays Group. (Email the AwayDays Team if you want to be added to the Group).
- If there are still places remaining an email will be sent to all members of Chepstow u3a.
Bookings are taken in the order they are received.
Our trips are very popular so we have to restrict them to Chepstow u3a members. If you have friends who would like to come on our visits, why not suggest they become members of Chepstow u3a?
In exceptional cases (such as filling vacant seats in a coach), we will consider taking members from other u3as.
All our trips start from Chepstow Leisure Centre car park where there is plenty of free car parking. All trips depart at the specified time so please be there in good time.
This is the only meeting point on the outward journey. On the return journey, on request, we will stop at the layby opposite the hospital on St. Lawrance road.
Most of the venues we visit provide some form of catering (see their website for details) but AwayDays cannot be held responsible for the range, cost or quality of the food that is available. You may wish to consider taking your own food and drink.
Let us know if you have any mobility issues. Please check the link to the venue website to see what accessibility facilities are available.
We do our best to estimate journey times as accurately as possible. However, we cannot be held responsible for anything outside our control such as breakdowns or traffic conditions.
No! Everyone pays the same price for the visit including the Group Leaders. Some places we visit offer a free place for the tour leader. The value of this is used to reduce the overall cost of the trip so all members on the trip benefit from this ‘free’ place.
Some AwayDays emails seem to go into SPAM folders even if they usually go into your Inbox.
If you have sent an email to AwayDays and have not had a reply withing 48 hours check your SPAM folder. If there is nothing there contact AwayDays again.
