Our weekly walks
-
Four seasons in one day! Very windy, multiple short sharp snow showers, but plenty of warm sunshine on this adapted walk from Llangynidr around rather than over Tor y Foel and back along the Usk Valley walk.
-
From Tal-y-Bont reservoir, a stiff climb up to the Car Pica plateau, with fabulous spring weather and super views all around. Not a long walk but so lovely to be up on top in the sunshine.
-
Another sunny walk from Allt yr Esgair, taking in Lake Llangorse and Mynydd Llangorse.
-
A beautiful spring day with all day sunshine, fabulous views, and great to be out on the big hills again. Rather boggy underfoot in places.
-
Instead of drizzle and mist as forecasted, we had a lovely clear day with plenty of spring sunshine, with the opportunity to paddle through a rather swollen stream!
-
A rearranged walk through the Wye valley due to weather, with some beautiful snowdrops on display, and a dry lunch in a church.
-
An interesting walk from Lydbrook up over Ruardean, Pan Tod and back past the beaver enclosure at Greathough brook
-
The Lonely Shepherd with Rosemary. A dry day in this very wet winter for our lovely walk up from the Clydach valley, into mist at he top. Very disorienting, but great views by lunchtime at the shepherd’s wife.
-
Waun Fach and Dragon’s back with Stef: A favourite walk, especially on a sunny day with wonderful views. Thanks to Stef for stepping in to take this walk after the leader had to pull out.
-
Wye valley with Dave. A wet day meant a change of plan, but the rain lessened.
-
Cwmyoy and Hatterall Hill with John. another lovely day with great views from the top. Unfortunately several of the team were unable to get through due to a road accident, so an alternative was hastily arranged: Blorenge from Llanfoist, led by Rachel.
-
Gaer to Partrishow with Linda, around 9 miles. A cold and very icy walk, but bright skies. The walk was amended to keep safe.
-
Olchon Valley, Hay Bluff and Cat’s Back with Rachel. A fabulous sunny winter’s day, with little wind, on one of the group’s favourite walks.
-
Three churches walk with Rachel. A good turn out for this shorter, more local Christmas Eve walk taking in Kilgwrrwg, Wolvesnewton and Newchurch.
-
Gaer to Bal Bach with Paula. A bit wet and windy, but the rain eased in the afternoon.
-
Christmas lunch walk with Rachel, from Wyedean school along the greenway, Gloucestershire Way and Offa’s dyke, ending with a lovely lunch at the Rising Sun, Woodcroft.
-
Craig y Cilau nature reserve with John. An interesting 10 mile walk taking in limestone cliffs, one of the most extensive cave systems in the UK, quarries and raised bog.
-
Hatterall Hill with a collective! Snow and ice meant we changed the walk at the last minute. A beautiful sunny 10 mile walk with crunchy snow under foot on top and a fierce, biting northerly.
-
No walk – rain! First walk to be cancelled since January 2025 – a record?
-
Clydach gorge to Blorenge with Kate. Gorgeous autumn colours and dramatic waterfalls punctuated this interesting 10.5 mile walk.
-
McNamara’s Road with Paula. A good turn out for this 9.5 mile circular. Breezy and showery but the sun came out eventually.
-
From Chepstow Park with Paula. A last minute circular up around Gaer Hill, with Paula stepping in to lead.
-
Waen Fach with Mair. Up the Grywne valley past the reservoir and back along the somewhat misty ridge.
-
Pen Tir and Mynydd Llangorse with Pam. A bit of a misty murky start, but the sun eventually broke through for a lovely walk.
-
Hay to Talgarth with Ken. A challenging 13 miles with an ascent of 900m, but hugely enjoyable.
