Our weekly walks
-
11mls. Pen y Gadair Fawr, Waun Fach and Y Grib. Very windy on top with lovely clear views. A few spots of rain but mainly dry and fairly bright. In the windiest spots, some of us had to resort to woolly hats and gloves – in August!
-
Oh dear! Derek was leader this week but was left stranded at LC without a lift. It wasn’t practical to go back to pick him up so an alternative from Crickhowell was led by Mair. Not our finest hour!
-
Capel-y-Ffin, Offa’s Dyke, Hay Bluff, Twmpa, and back via Darren Llwd.
-
A windy, foggy, very wet walk to Llyn y Fan Fawr and back. Was meant to be longer but defeated by the weather.
-
9mls around Uley in the Cotswolds. Warm enough to appreciate the ice cream in Dursley. An excellent first walk lead for the group from Ange & Dave.
-
A 12ml walk from Llangynidr around Dyffryn Crawnon. Including the Nye Bevan Heritage Trail marker and Brinore Tramroad, and back along Beacons Way. Cold and clear.
-
Walk postponed due to very hot weather.
-
A 12ml walk from Grwyne Fechan to Pen Allt Mawr and Mynydd Llysiau and back along McNamarra’s Road. Rachel’s first lead for the group.
-
Cwmyoy and Hatterall Hill on a lovely walking day.
-
11ml walk around the Llanfrynach Horseshoe. Cold and clear on top.
-
Perfect weather for a 10ml walk from Cwm Ddu to Pen Tir, Mynydd Llangors and Mynydd Troed.
-
Walk postponed due to bad weather.
-
12.5mls 2333ft ascent. Bus assist Talgarth to Hay. Walk back to Talgarth via Offa’s Dyke path to Gospel Pass, Twmpa, Rhos Dirion, Cwm Cwnstab and Pwll-y-Wrach nature reserve. Clear dry day with a mix of temperatures. Birds spotted; a yellowhammer and a spiral of 11 red kites above Talgarth.
-
(stepping in for Geoff at short notice). Craig Gwaun Taf, Corn Du, Pen-y-Fan & Cribyn, on a beautiful warm clear (at last!) spring day.
-
Catsback 10mls. A misty start down across Olchon Valley then up along Hatterall Ridge to lunch-with-a-view at Hay Bluff. Then over Black Hill to the lovely Catsback Ridge.
-
Along the reservoir and then up to the summit of Cefn yr Ystrad with its bronze age cairns, aircraft crash site memorial and a fabulous sunlit 360 degree view. Down through the quarries and across to the viewpoint over Dyffryn Crawnon, descending though Cwm Callan, back to Dolygaer and on to welcome refreshments at the Old Barn Tearooms. Dry underfoot and no rain or strong winds – we even came back with clean boots!
-
An 11ml walk around Pen Tir and Beacons Way.
-
A change of walk and leader due to foul weather yet again in the mountains. A bluebell walk from Cadogan Woods. Bluebells just emerging.
-
Barry’s first walk lead, a change to the advertised walk due to high wind. From Crickhowell to Table Mountain and west along Beacons Way. Then back along footpaths new to many of the group. More please Barry!
-
An 8ml walk from Llanthony to familiar places from a different angle. Including one unscripted steep descent!
-
An 8.5ml walk skirting around the Sugarloaf going west to ascend the Mynydd Llanwenarth ridge and descend via the Deri. In the cloud at the top but lovely views on the way up and down.
-
An attempt to walk Mynydd Llangors & Mynydd Troed but beaten back half way by the weather. To be repeated.
-
From Capel-y-Ffin to Hay Bluff and Gospel Pass. Clear views and heavy snow (ie. hard work!) on top.
-
An 8ml walk from Llangorse Lake up to Mynydd Llangors.
-
Heavy rain and high winds yet again in the mountains. An 8ml walk around Trellech was a popular alternative.
